Hunting in California is becoming more challenging every day. As I have transitioned from strictly bow hunting to include hunting with a firearm, I have realized that many hunters need guidance as to what to hunt with in regards to ammunition due to ever changing regulations. I mentioned in a few seminars, and on social media, that I would be testing out some handloads for .270 Winchester using Shooter’s World powder (to see how it compared to mainstream powders) and utilizing 130 grain Nosler E-tip, Barnes TSX, and Cutting Edge all copper projectiles. The results of the first tests are posted below.
Rifle: Remington 710 chambered in .270 Winchester
Optic: Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16×42
I allowed five minutes in between each load to allow the barrel to cool a bit. I ran a dry cleaning patch through the barrel after each load. After each group of 50 rounds, I allowed 45 minutes for the barrel to cool and change targets.
Five rounds of each load at 56°F in the desert. 5-10 mph crosswind east to west.

Over 150 rounds were fired during the testing. The rifle was originally sighted in for the Cutting Edge rounds over a year ago. I have chosen the top 3-4 groups (in my opinion) to reload and test for additional accuracy, bullet performance, and velocity.
