Red, white and blue have always been colors I gravitate to due to the colors of the American Flag. I’ve always been that way and don’t see a need to change. “Patriotic” describes me quite well. When Shinesty reached out to have me review some patriotic clothing I couldn’t say no. I decided on The Johnny Adams Men’s American Flag Hawaiian Shirt because I like Hawaiian shirts and it looked awesome!
Disclaimer: Shinesty isn’t a kids store, so if you are easily offended by colorful language it may be wise to move along. I’m not offended by much. When I read some of the language describing the clothing and gear I realized some of my readers may cringe (sorry Mom!). Now, if you DO order something, Shinesty sends some temporary tattoos with your order These are not appropriate for younger eyes. My wife and I each chose to sport one of the tamer versions.
Anxiety hit when I first tried on the shirt as it fit a little different than my other Hawaiian shirts. It wasn’t loose and the material was different, almost stretchy. I ordered the shirt based on the size chart on the website, but it didn’t fit quite like I thought it would. Err on the side of caution, go one size up. From what I can tell, the shirts fit loose, but very close to the skin. Keep in mind that it might be a bit uncomfortable at first.
An Independence Day bike ride with the family was the inaugural field test. It was comfortable, breathable, and fit better than when I tried it on the first time. After the ride, I opted to wash it right away. Washing was simple and the colors held fast. The comfort level was higher after I wore it once and washed it. That’s something to keep in mind.
One of the fun parts of the shirt is there is a drink holder (fits a can or bottle) in the back of the shirt. I didn’t even know it was there at first! It’s a fun little addition to an otherwise normal shirt. It’s great for parties when you need a free hand for a plate of ribs and sweet corn. I didn’t use it at all, but I can see where it’d be a fun party trick.
Retailing at $59.99, it’s not inexpensive. I am not so sure I’d pay that for a shirt I’ll wear only a few times a year. Some may oppose my decision, but I don’t pay $59.99 for a shirt I’ll wear many times. That being said, if you breathe-eat-and-sleep America then the Johnny Adams Men’s American Flag Hawaiian Shirt might just be for you.
